Entertainment Industry
Entertainment industries are part of the creative economy, the promotion of which the Thai government has put as a national agenda on top of its economic development policy. The government encourages foreign investors to become involved in Thailand’s diverse entertainment industries, particularly its prolific film industry. The country is a popular location for shooting international movies, both western and Asian, with supporting film studios, editing labs, pre and post-production, etc. Opportunities abound within the entertainment industries, from music (karaoke and recording), television (programs and production), animation and CG to advertising and a host of support services. In 2008, the entertainment industries generated more than one billion Euro income from service exports, continuing the annual export growth of 10% since 2003.
The Royal Thai government recognizes the necessity of well-built infrastructure for the entertainment industries. For this reasons, it supports the construction of superb infrastructure as an important milestone to create a competitive entertainment cluster that will help Thailand achieve the status of ‘Asia’s Entertainment Hub’.
The advantages of Thai entertainment industries can be found in the creativity and the neatness of the artists, their experience and skills, the regularly updated equipments and techniques used and the competitive price. The performance of the industries has been well recognized and received a positive response from targeted groups worldwide. In these regards, the DEP supports the international expansion of Thai entertainment industries primarily by facilitating Thai services providers in taking part in international entertainment festivals, such as Hong Kong Film Festival, Cannes Festival and MP TV.
